Founded in April 1987, Chang Gung University is located in Gushan Township, Taoyuan County, Taiwan Province, China.  Changgung Medical College, formerly known as Changgung Medical College, aims to cultivate excellent medical talents.  In order to meet the needs of Taiwan's economic development, engineering and management departments were added to provide complete teaching resources to cultivate excellent medical, engineering and management talents. In 1993, the school was renamed Chang Gung College of Medicine and Engineering. In August 1997, it was restructured into "Chang Gung University" after approval of Taiwan education authorities.  At present, the university has three schools of medicine, engineering, management, a total of more than 30 departments.   

Since its establishment 25 years ago, the university has made remarkable achievements in teaching and research.  In the past years, the university has been rated as "university with excellent performance" by Taiwan education authorities.  In recent years, statistics from external professional institutions show that the overall research performance of the university has been ranked among the top five universities in Taiwan.  In 2012, the university was rated as one of the top 400 universities in the world by several international universities, ranking fifth only after national Taiwan University, Cheng University, Jiao Tong University and Taiwan Qing University.
