Xuanzang University (HCU), or "Xuan" for short, is a private university founded in 1997 in Xiangshan District, Hsinchu city, Taiwan Province, China. The department was founded by the Buddhist community in Taiwan and was formerly known as Xuan Zang College of Humanities and Social Sciences. In 2004, it was renamed Xuan Zang University.
Its name is in honor of Xuanzang, the founder of the Only Dharma sect of Chinese Buddhism. Buddhism originally wisdom (prajna) for the purpose, think with knowledge is the human survival and development, is also the source of light, human beings so Buddhism is essentially value is know is seen, the school hopes through the school to seek is known and dispel ignorance (for the ignorance of things) and improve social truth, construction of the ideal of pure land in the world.
The university now consists of four schools, including the Academy of Social Sciences, the School of International Hospitality and Management, the School of Design and the School of Communication, with twenty departments and twelve research institutes. From 2006 to 2010, he received the subsidy of "University Teaching Excellence Program" sponsored by Taiwan Ministry of Education. Nearby universities and colleges are Yuanpei University of Science and Technology and Zhonghua University.
